Unit Outline
NEW 2021 - Unit workbook
Printable worksheets to address each individual expectation
LESSON PLANS
We have created lessons that correspond to each of the expectations of the Ontario curriculum. All lessons follow a 3-part format including expectations, learning goals, examples, minds-on activities, action activities, extension/discussion activities, and consolidation activities. In some instances, there are two lessons to cover an expectation because of the depth and/or difficulty. I would suggest you move on at a pace appropriate for your students.
The original versions of the lessons are still available as part of this resource.
- Lesson 1: collecting data using surveys
- Lesson 2: primary and secondary data
- Lesson 3: choosing appropriate types of graphs
- Lesson 4: distinguish between a sample and a census
- Lesson 5: identify bias
STATIONS (CENTRES)
Give your students a chance to work on the material in a different way. I use this as an opportunity to spend some time with GUIDED GROUPS (Questions included) for the first half of the period and monitor/assess during the second half of the period. If you have a challenging class, this can be a difficult routine to establish, but well worth the effort!
- One guided station
- Careers (research)
- Using Census at School (technology)
- Manipulatives (graphing)
- (Media) Video Links
BIG RESPONSIBILITY (Culminating Activity)
TRACKING TEMPLATES for recording grades and anecdotal reporting.
STUDY GUIDE and UNIT TEST (with answer keys). I give the students the STUDY GUIDE at the beginning of the unit and have them meet with me periodically before the test to ensure they understand the material
REPORT CARD COMMENTS
I have included the comments that apply to the unit.
The complete grade 7 math report card package is available here: Grade 7 Ontario Math Report Card Comments
