Decimals Task Cards: Decimals Through The Thousandths (Read, Write, Compare, Order, and Round)

Decimals Task Cards contain 24 different cards for Grade 5 based on the Common Core State Standards (5.NBT.A.3, 5.NBT.A.4). These Decimals Task Cards also satisfy the Texas TEKS 5.1(B) Objective. A Title card, a Common Core Standards card, a Texas TEKS card, and an Answers card are also included if you choose to make them part of a deck. A full size page of answers are included to use in a learning center, and a full size page of answers with cover cards containing windows to reveal a correct answer are included if you choose to let students play a group game. The cards can also be used at the end of Grade 4 or as a review in the beginning of Grade 6.

Decimals Task cards help with understanding how to read decimals to write number names, write decimals based on the number name, compare and order decimals to decide which value is larger, which value is smaller, and even a value that is larger than a certain value and smaller than a certain value, and round decimals to a specified place value up to the thousandths place.

These decimals task cards can be used in learning centers, for independent review, or in a game setting. The cards can be printed in color or grayscale. For long term use, you will want to laminate the cards first or insert them into the pages of a small 4x6 photo album where students can write their answers directly on each page with a dry erase marker. The following Common Core standards are covered:

CCSS.Math.Content.5.NBT.A.3 Read, write, and compare decimals to thousandths.

CCSS.Math.Content.5.NBT.A.3a Read and write decimals to thousandths using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form, e.g., 347.392 = 3 × 100 + 4 × 10 + 7 × 1 + 3 × (1/10) + 9 × (1/100) + 2 × (1/1000).

CCSS.Math.Content.5.NBT.A.3b Compare two decimals to thousandths based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.

CCSS.Math.Content.5.NBT.A.4 Use place value understanding to round decimals to any place.
