Many parents are willing to help their child become better readers but they aren't sure how. Most parents rely on saying, "Sound it out," or simply correcting the word for the student. One parent said to me, "I didn't go to school for this like you did. I don't even know what you mean by decoding." Thus, my inspiration for this guide was born!
This Quick-Reference Guide can be sent home so parents can reinforce the same strategies you are teaching at school.
This Quick-Reference Guide can also be used in the classroom. Refer to it during Guided Reading to anchor your student to the strategies. Teach your students to suggest a strategy when reading with a partner rather than just giving them the word.
