Decorating a Spring Scene

Included:

This packet includes 4 classroom activities and 3 independent activities in which students will independently decorate a scene from the Springtime with related objects. Teachers can use these activities to learn about springtime and develop creative decision-making skills, scissors and gluing skills, and fine motor skills..

4 (classroom) activities

Lesson Preparation:

  1. Using a laminator, laminate the 4 full-page scenes from the Spring season, as well as the page of spring objects. 
  2. Cut out visuals of objects in springtime and add a soft velcro dot to the back.
  3. Add hard velcro to the scenes of spring; place velcro all around the image to give students multiple options to put on related spring objects.

Goals:

  1. Students will understand different objects found in Springtime.
  2. Students will make choices on preferred objects and scenes in Springtime.
  3. Students will put visuals of objects in space onto a scene of space with the highest level of independence and accuracy. 
  4. Students will develop their hand-eye coordination by putting visuals on the velcro dots with the highest level of accuracy.

[Optional- increase resistance to develop grip/ hand holding strength ]

  1. Students will independently pull visuals off the (resistive) velcro dots. 
  2. Students will use one hand to pull visuals off the velcro dots and the other hand to hold down the paper.

4 (individual) activities

Materials:

  1. Scissors
  2. Glue stick
  3. Name stamp or writing utensil

Goals:

  1. Students will make choices on their preferred scene from Springtime and related objects.
  2. Students will understand different objects found in the Spring season.
  3. Students will develop their scissors skills by independently cutting out 8 different objects found in the Spring season.
  4. Students will develop their grip strength by independently holding and using a glue stick.
  5. Students will develop creative thinking by independently making design choices.
