Description

Teach students to follow and respect copyright law when using digital content!

Did you know that most people take images online and share them on their social media or within their own multimedia presentations without giving credit to the original artist?  Believe it or not, when they do that, they are breaking the law.

If you are a 3rd grade teacher or Library Media Specialist who teaches citation or research this lesson will give you:

  • Standards Based lesson that engages students in inquiry as they learn about copyright. Standards are listed below.
  • Printable student handouts that give students a choice in how to learn about copyright. Printable handouts include QR Codes that are linked to a video, infographic, and article. 
  • Digital activity for Google Slides that includes a digital choice board with live links, digital note-taking sheet, and a comprehension check. 
  • Digital activity for Seesaw that includes a digital choice board with live links, digital note-taking sheet, and a comprehension check. 
  • Recording sheet for students to note what they have learned about copyright. 
  • Printable Sorting Game for students to sort what can and cannot be copyrighted.
  • Printable Worksheet for students to circle what can be copyrighted.
  • Directions are included for how to play the game Just Like Me and use the digital activities for Google and Seesaw.
  • Answer Key included

This lesson can be used with students in grades 2 - 5! Grade 2 students love learning about copyright. The included materials are also perfect for reviewing copyright with older students.
