Description

This concise, to the point and no-prep dependent events lesson is a great way to teach & introduce what dependent events are, the difference between independent and dependent events, and how to find the probability of dependent events. There are five problems where students determine if the situation is dependent or independent, and three more in depth examples where students practice finding the probability of dependent events. Students and teachers love how easy these notes are to follow and understand.

These notes get straight to the point of the skill being taught, which I have found is imperative for the attention span of middle schoolers! They are also a great tool for students to refer back to.

Both myself and my students really love your notes resources!! They are straight-forward and very student centered. The wording and information is easy for students to follow along and understand. My favorite part of your resources is the videos included! They are the right length of time to keep the students attention and can be used for review, modern classroom type lesson, or if a student was absent! Thank you for all your hard work!

Understand that the probability of a chance event is a number between 0 and 1 that expresses the likelihood of the event occurring. Larger numbers indicate greater likelihood. A probability near 0 indicates an unlikely event, a probability around 1/2 indicates an event that is neither unlikely nor likely, and a probability near 1 indicates a likely event.
Approximate the probability of a chance event by collecting data on the chance process that produces it and observing its long-run relative frequency, and predict the approximate relative frequency given the probability. For example, when rolling a number cube 600 times, predict that a 3 or 6 would be rolled roughly 200 times, but probably not exactly 200 times.
Understand that, just as with simple events, the probability of a compound event is the fraction of outcomes in the sample space for which the compound event occurs.
