Design A Board Game Independent Student Planning Guide, Step-By-Step
Share

Description

Combine strategy, creativity, and problem-solving as students design and make a playable board game. They’ll create a theme, rules, and all necessary pieces for a fun and fair experience.

The resource includes:

- A clearly defined task

- Four simple, achievable success criteria to guide learning

- Step-by-step sections that break the task down into manageable chunks

- Opportunity for self-reflection during and after the project

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a lesson plan. It is a graphic organiser made to support learning new concepts which are currently being taught, and does not contain the content of these concepts. This is so teachers can use it flexibly with their own teaching content and terminology.

Students can use this planning guide as they research what makes a successful and fun board game, plan their own fair rules and game attributes, create their game and test it with friends and/or family. Teachers can simply print the 3-page guide for each student, and then choose to break down the lessons following the step-by-step sections (e.g. the first lesson is Step 1: Discover), or leave more capable students to their own pace and devices using the guide.

The resource promotes original thinking, gameplay balance, and clear communication. Teachers can formatively assess creativity, organisation, and attention to detail.

Easily printable in black and white, this guide works well for project-based learning, statistics (chance) or enrichment activities.
