Description

This quick and easy activity brings the engineering design process to your classroom...using only a few materials each time! By limiting students' options to a few materials, it pushes students to think more creatively (not to mention, it saves you from using all of the materials and tape that you've collected for STEM/STEAM activities in a single setting!). Choose from 14 different challenges! Challenges include things such as "I need a new way to clean my teeth" or "I need to get toys from under the couch." Students use the supplies given to them to find a solution for the challenge! Each group of students will use connectors (like pipe cleaners, velcro, or rubber bands), flat materials (like coffee filters, paper, index cards, or cloth), and stiff materials (like straws, tin foil, or paper tubes) to follow the engineering design process and create a solution for one of the challenges.

There is an optional packet for your kids to fill out their thinking, as well! This has successful been done in K-5th grade classrooms!

Included in this purchase are digital posters of the Engineering Design Process (Ask - Imagine - Plan - Create - Improve)!

This activity can be done in a full-class setting, during centers, and more!
