This unit blends mathematical thinking and creative thinking in a way that will have your students asking for more. Their task is to create a new playground for their school. They will need to research existing playground equipment, learn about drawing to scale, and use mathematical knowledge such as geometry, area, and percentages to create their own scale model of a new playground. I used this resource as a jumping-off point to create my own unit. I used MANY of the activities as is and tweaked a few to meet my style of teaching and my students style of learning. This is a great resource for this type of planning AND it would be a great resource as is. I highly recommend this product if you are looking for ideas as I did OR you could use this as is. It is very complete and a unit you could use right away. If you are looking for a STEM unit.. I highly recommend this product!
