Description

Explore the excitement of designing your very own unique instrument virtually! Using Microsoft Power Point, students design and build their own virtual music instrument. This power point introduces concepts of frequency, found sounds, rate, sampling, and inserting and using animations within power point to create a virtual instrument. After instrument building is complete, students use team work to collaborate on a performance by plugging their lap tops into speakers and playing with back ground accompaniment. This project is a high energy, time intensive work shop that students will love. Lots of opportunity for creative work. You will need access to lap tops or a computer lab, microphones, audacity for recording, and preferably, speakers for playing sounds out loud. The eighth-grade class I did this project with was a small group of advanced learners. It would be better-suited for a high school group.

I hope you have as much fun as we did!

I really liked the idea, but it was a bit hard for my 8th graders. This resource is more for high school after they have a lot of knowledge about how to use more than basic tools in powerpoint.

Thanks! I hope you find it as fun as I did. Since doing this I have been able to create virtual instruments to use in my power points. Make sure and work though it first on your own, because it can get complicated!
