Description

Dialogue and quotation punctuation can be tough for students to remember. They use this type of punctuation when writing narratives as well as when using quotations in informative and argumentative essays. This worksheet can be used to introduce the dialogue punctuation rules, review the format after a lesson, or as assess to make sure students know how to properly punctuate dialogue and quotations!

It is ready to download and print with two worksheets on each page so less paper is wasted! You can also easily load this in Google Drive so students could complete as a digital assignment. Just include in the instructions that students should make sure to put their corrections in a new color so they stand out (similar to the answer key).

Includes:

  • 2 half-sheet practice worksheets per printable page
  • Answer key

While I thought that teaching dialogue in writing with my 9th grade students would be a sort-of review for them, it was not. Punctuating dialogue was a real challenge for them. The students struggled with using dialogue in narratives. I saw great improvement in their writing after we had this mini lesson on using dialogue. This resource was very engaging for the students, and it made teaching it easier for me.
