Description
These materials will help you teach diction and syntax in a thorough, easy-to-grasp, and fun way. Although I designed this lesson for A.P. Language and Composition, you can use it for a range of other courses: creative writing, regular English, or public speaking. Diction and syntax skills help people persuade. The lesson concept revolves around an analogy: whereas diction is like purposeful lyrics that a band chooses, syntax is more like the arrangement of their clothes on stage. This comprehensive lesson has many different parts and resources to pick and pull from: a creative opening activity to help students think about the purpose of diction and syntax, an interactive activity where students think further about diction and syntax as they listen to a K-pop song, clear teaching points on the meaning of diction and syntax as well as techniques to locate diction and syntax (in texts), a full auxiliary handout with more information about diction and syntax, a lesson debate question about these topics, and a few interactive workshop activities. This product includes access to a full lesson agenda, lesson objectives, checks for understanding, accompanying Google Slides, and the aforementioned auxiliary handout.
