- Answer key
Your students will love practicing prefixes with these fun and engaging color by code activities. The worksheets allow students to practice working with prefixes in four unique ways, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience. You can use these worksheets in any order or pick and choose the ones that work best for your classroom.
Let’s look at what you can expect students to practice with each of the four skills included in these worksheets:
1. With prefix definitions students will demonstrate their understanding of the meanings of prefixes, a vital skill in understanding how prefixes change the meaning of a base word.
2. In the building words with prefixes worksheets, students will add prefixes to a base word to change its meaning.
3. When using the identifying prefixes worksheets, students will identify prefixes, base words, and words with or without prefixes.
4. Finally, with the complete the sentence worksheets, students will add a prefix to complete a sentence.
You are going to love your ability to easily provide differentiated prefix practice for your students. Plus, students won’t be able to tell which worksheet is below, on, or above grade level because each page is simply labelled with a number instead of a code students can easily figure out. Also, the on, above, and below level worksheets for each skill color the same monster. So, other than having different questions, students are completing worksheets that create the same code for one monster. And all levels of the worksheet have 9 questions, so no one appears to have more, less, easier, or more difficult work than their peers!
When designing these activities, I selected common fourth grade prefixes for the on-level worksheets, common second and third grade prefixes for the below level worksheets, and common fifth grade prefixes for the above level worksheets. However, please keep in mind that what I find to be common for each of these grade levels, might be different, in your state, school, or classroom. PLEASE LOOK THROUGH EACH WORKSHEET AND MAKE DECISIONS BASED ON THE NEEDS OF YOUR STUDENTS AND THE PREFIXES YOU ARE TEACHING!
