I originally began the design of this product to help one of my student’s meet an IEP goal. The goal was as follows:
By end of first quarter, student will be able to write words related to a picture prompt from a word bank.
By end of second quarter, student will be able to use words from a word bank to write a sentence about a picture using a sentence starter.
By annual review date, student will be able to use from a word bank to generate and write a sentence.
However, it has proved to be beneficial with all of my beginning writers, which is why I decided to share it with you! I have always loved the “Webber Photo Cards” I purchased a couple years ago from Super Duper Inc. and thought they’d be perfect for helping me with this student’s writing goals. But in order to meet these goals I needed to make word banks and sentence starters, which is what I have done. With the writing tasks I designed, students will begin on Level 1, and then increase to level 2, then 3. Each picture card includes all 3 leveled writing sheets.
Level 1 – Students write words related to a picture prompt from the word bank provided. All of the pages in this level 1 include a word bank of 12 words; 7 that pertain to the story and 5 that do not. Students at this level are only required to write the words pertaining to the picture. This is also a good activity for assessing comprehension.
Level 2 – Students use the words from the word bank to write a sentence using a provided sentence starter.
Level 3 – Students use the words from the word bank to create a sentence on their own with no sentence starter.
This set includes word banks and writing sheets only for set one, the purple cards. This includes prompts for 67 pictures and with a total of 3 differentiated writing sheets for each picture card, that is a total of 201 writing sheets you will receive in this set.
Set 2, for the green cards is available here
