Description
Let you students discover diffusion and osmosis with this lab activity! This osmosis lab covers key concepts such as semi-permeable cell membranes, diffusion, and osmosis with a hands-on lab to help strengthen your students’ understanding.
Seeing is believing. And your students will see how diffusion and osmosis move materials from high concentration to low. The dialysis tubing used in this lab will serve as a semi-permiable mebrane allowing some things to move accross it while other materials will not. This osmosis lab will reinforce topics covered in lecture and previous class activities taught in this unit. An answer key is also provided for easy grading.
This Diffusion And Osmosis Lab Includes:
- 5-page step-by-step PDF handout for students
- 5-page answer key for teachers
- Digital version of the lab (Google Slides)
Materials needed for this lab:
test tubes, Benedict’s solution, iodine solution, dialysis tubing, hot plate, water, 250ml beaker, 1L beaker, funnel, 80% glucose solution, starch solution
How I Use this Diffusion Lab In My Classroom:
After teaching about the diffusion and the cell membrane in lecture, I want to check for understanding before continuing to the next topic of our unit. I have found labs to be a great assessment tool before moving on to a unit test and my diffusion and osmosis activity has helped me determine how well my students are understanding key concepts and if I need to reteach any material before we take our unit test.
Students will be engaged throughout this lab as they will be able to observe diffusion and osmosis occurring as the dialysis tubing mimics the cell membrane.
