The problems increasing in difficulty and are color-coded and numbered to demonstrate that difficulty. Makes it very easy to keep track of! Every question is color coded (each digit is color coded) which provides students with an extra scaffold. Before they come to you for help, they can use the color codes to check the step they're on. This should save you a LOT of time and help students be more independent while they are learning!
Questions 1-12: 2 digits x 1 digit (i.e. 34 x 6)
Questions 13 - 18: 3 digits X 1 digits (i.e. 4 x 789)
Questions 19-36: 2 digits X 2 digits (i.e. 56 x 98)
Video Lessons on every slide: 36 video lessons: one for each question. You can play these in class during your lesson and have students follow along, or assign the digital version and kids can watch the videos themselves. The possibilities are endless but this should save you a TON of time!
The best part:
This resource was designed to match PERFECTLY with the area model resource and partial products resource, so that you can teach all three algorithms without changing your lesson (color, numbers, format, everything is aligned). If you get the bundle, you can introduce the three different strategies and students can learn which one they like best. All of the questions are the same; for example if you ask students to work on question 9, everyone will be doing the same question, regardless of which algorithm they are using. Click HERE to get the digital bundle, which has all three algorithms.
If you want this in paper form, check out THIS resource. For one dollar more you get all these same google slides, plus the 36 questions in worksheet form AND the same 36 questions in task card form. This way you can pull up the digital version as your lesson and have students doing worksheets, or use the task cards for centers: the possibilities are endless. I hope that you can use this for years and years to come!
I hope you enjoy this resource. It is very consistent and well-thought out, with the intention of saving you a lot of time and stress. These questions are scaffolded, with the intention that students can practice with these and then be able to graduate to non-color-coded questions. This is truly a way for students to feel confident and empowered while learning a tough new skill.
