Explain why a fraction 𝘒/𝘣 is equivalent to a fraction (𝘯 Γ— 𝘒)/(𝘯 Γ— 𝘣) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 Γ— 5 = 40, one knows 40 Γ· 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
Fluently add and subtract within 5.
