Description

When looking to do the traditional Gingerbread House measurement activity needs to be digitized -- look no further! Here you will have a Digital Gingerbread House measurement aligned to your 6th Grade Geometry standards.

This is all built through Google Slides and meant for students to work independently OR in groups though breakout rooms to digitally measure measure a gingerbread house and then calculate the surface area and volume.

Students will be linked to a secondary set of slides if you choose to use the digital gingerbread house template. These slides provide a ruler for students to move around to measure the pieces.

This link can be removed to allow students to measure their own gingerbread house pieces if using a physical kit.

Additional challenge (Slides 8-10) contain an opportunity for students to scale their Gingerbread House up by making each of the dimensions 4 times larger and think about how the Surface Area & Volume compare to that of the original measurements.

Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
Find the volume of a right rectangular prism with fractional edge lengths by packing it with unit cubes of the appropriate unit fraction edge lengths, and show that the volume is the same as would be found by multiplying the edge lengths of the prism. Apply the formulas 𝘝 = 𝘭 𝘸 𝘩 and 𝘝 = 𝘣 𝘩 to find volumes of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
Represent three-dimensional figures using nets made up of rectangles and triangles, and use the nets to find the surface area of these figures. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
