Step-by-step instructions and explanation for using with google classroom
HOW IS IT SET UP?
•This is the technology component to the Guided Math instruction happening in class.
•Digital guided math can also be used for teaching slides and a technology rotation.
•There are 5 parts to each e-lesson that can be used at school, for technology math stations, for homework, or a combination.
•The lessons you are doing with this resource are different than the lessons happening in the traditional Guided Math resource, but they teach the same concepts. This creates a well-rounded math student with many chances to access and understand the skills and concepts being taught.
•Google slides and Seesaw compatible with ONE CLICK.
ABOUT UNIT 1 Place Value
The lessons focus on place value skills. We will work with numbers up to the 999,999 place value representing them in standard form, base 10 form, expanded form, and word form.
Students will be exposed to ways to name numbers, comparing and ordering numbers, rounding, and estimation. Students will use the skills of rounding and estimation to add and subtract.
When students have completed each lesson, there is a checkpoint as well as an optional extension activity at the end.
ABOUT UNIT 2 Addition and Subtraction
This unit focuses on addition and subtraction concepts. We will use a variety of representations to model problems such as: number lines, strip diagrams, and standard algorithm. Students are also exposed to regrouping with addition and subtraction. We will solve word problems and gain insight into examining problems to determine what type of operation should be used. Students will also be exposed to addition properties.
When students have completed each lesson, there is a checkpoint as well as an optional extension activity at the end.
ABOUT UNIT 3 Multiplication and Division Concepts and Models
The lessons focus on multiplication and division concepts and models. We will start learning and mastering our multiplication facts during this unit. We will explore various ways to represent multiplication and division problems through repeated addition/subtraction, equal groups, number lines, arrays, and area models.
When students have completed each lesson, there is a checkpoint as well as an optional extension activity at the end.
ABOUT UNIT 4 Multiplication and Division Problem Solving
This unit focuses on problem solving with multiplication and division as well as related number pair tables. The unit dives into partial products as well as how to identify the differences between a multiplication and division problem.
When students have completed each lesson, there is a checkpoint as well as an optional extension activity at the end.
ABOUT UNIT 5 Fractions
This unit focuses on how to identify fractions of a whole/region and a set. Students are also exposed to comparing fractions through model drawing and the use of number lines. Equivalent fraction models and number lines are also introduced. Students will work with halves, thirds, fourths, sixths, eighths, and twelfths.
When students have completed each lesson, there is a checkpoint as well as an optional extension activity at the end.
ABOUT UNIT 6 Time and Measurement
This unit focuses on two different concepts: elapsed time and units of measurement. The first part focuses on the elapsed time concept. Three strategies are taught to help students grasp the process of solving for elapsed time- clocks, number lines, and t-charts. Finally, the third component highlights customary and metric measurement units for capacity, weight, mass, and length.
When students have completed each lesson, there is a checkpoint as well as an optional extension activity at the end.
ABOUT UNIT 7 Geometry
This unit focuses on two different concepts: elapsed time and units of measurement. The first part focuses on the elapsed time concept. Three strategies are taught to help students grasp the process of solving for elapsed time- clocks, number lines, and t-charts. Finally, the third component highlights customary and metric measurement units for capacity, weight, mass, and length.
When students have completed each lesson, there is a checkpoint as well as an optional extension activity at the end.
ABOUT UNIT 8 Data and Finance
Data focuses on exploring different types of graphs and students learn how to read and interpret graphs and data. The graphs that students will be exposed to include bar graphs, dot plots, frequency tables, and pictographs.
Finance focus on exploring personal finance. Students are introduced to several new terms (income, credit, interest, scarcity, etc.). This unit introduces students to each term and gives students real-life examples to analyze and solve. Students are also exposed to different types of decisions that come with making an income, planning for expenses, and saving for the future.
When students have completed each lesson, there is a checkpoint as well as an optional extension activity at the end.
ABOUT UNIT 9 Skill Review
This is a review of all standards and skills learned and practiced through the previous eight units of Digital Guided Math Third Grade.
The focus here is to use skills in combination and be fluent and proficient in the execution of those skills.
When students have completed each lesson, there is a checkpoint as well as an optional extension activity at the end.
The 5 parts to an e-lesson and how they mirror the Guided Math structure:
Whole group becomes Teacher Talk -- a hands-on lesson on the skill or concept.
Small group becomes Practice -- a digital activity to reinforce the skill or concept.
Workstation activity becomes Game -- a digital student learning game.
Independent Practice becomes Checkpoint -- a digital and printable activity for mastery.
Reflection becomes Extension -- a hands-on home math activity on the skill or concept.
HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT THAN TRADITIONAL GUIDED MATH FOR THIRD GRADE?
This is standards-aligned like traditional Guided Math, but the lessons and activities are all different than those being taught in traditional Guided Math. Digital Guided Math reinforces the learning without overlapping lessons or content. This is perfect for classrooms that need remote learning and use the guided math approach. This would work with any curriculum because it is standards-aligned so it can be assigned in any order that meets your scope and sequence.
Can these lessons and activities be used in Google Slides/Google Classroom?
YES! These lessons and activities are already loaded into Google Slides for you. Just click the link within the PDF and select "Make a Copy". The activities and lessons will be loaded into your Google Drive. A more detailed explanation is included.
Can these lessons and activities be used in Seesaw?
Seesaw allows google slides, but some parts may need to be altered.
Can these lessons and activities be used in Microsoft Teams?
Once you open the Google Slides document you will click File, Download, and choose then PowerPoint. The moveable pieces and objects will automatically transfer over to PowerPoint as well!
Can these lessons and activities be used in Schoology or Canvas?
Both Schoology and Canvas allow you to embed a Google Slides document. These lessons and activities come preloaded to Google Slides.
