Description

Looking for a way to have students read, write, create, and more, with quarter rest, or ta rest, in a distance learning situation? This digital interactive notebook is in Google Slides, and includes the following for practicing quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rest:

  • 5 sections: reading, writing, creating, classifying, and responding
  • 7 pages for reading, in which students read the rhythm to "Bow Wow Wow," "Naughty Kitty Cat," "Pease Porridge Hot," "Johnny caught a flea," and "See the old witch," then drag the icons into a box to show they've completed the reading, and then two pages in which students read the rhythm, then identify the song or chant by dragging the icon
  • 4 pages for writing, in which students drag rhythm patterns to write the rhythm for "Bow Wow Wow," "Naughty Kitty Cat," "Johnny caught a flea," and "Pease Porridge Hot"
  • 3 pages for creating, in which students drag 4-beat rhythm patterns or one beat rhythms, and one in which students label the form with apples, bananas, and cherries for what they've composed
  • 4 pages for classifying, in which students label the fruit form for "Bow Wow Wow," "Naughty Kitty Cat," "Johnny caught a flea," and "Pease Porridge Hot"
  • 2 pages for responding, in which students listen and read along with Beethoven's "Symphony No. 7," mvmt. 2 (which requires YouTube access), then respond to questions about the piece by typing in the text boxes
  • 5 page blank templates, that you can add whatever you'd like to
  • Directions for using, sharing, and having students submit back to you
  • A key, for any slides with answers

Please note, this set does not include the terminology "ta," "ti-ti," or "ta rest," so can be used with any rhythm syllables. The students would need to know "Bow Wow Wow," "Naughty Kitty Cat," "See the old witch," "Pease Porridge Hot," and "Johnny caught a flea" to use the notebook, but slides can be deleted if needed. to use the notebook, but slides can be deleted if needed.

Perfect for 1st grade introduction and 2nd grade review. So very happy to not hear the usual "I lost it" answer (with paper copies). Thank you for your quality products!

I've been looking for a way for students to keep a journal for music class but paper versions have so many disadvantages. I'm looking forward to beginning journals digitally with them this fall. Thanks for bringing this creative adaptation to life.
