Description

Digraph decoding assessments for phonics progress monitoring, intervention, and small group instruction.

These digraph decoding assessments are designed for real classroom use. Each page gives students a chance to read a variety of words that include common digraphs (sh, ch, th, wh, ck) so you can get a clear picture of their phonics skills.

I created this with small groups and intervention in mind. It’s simple, predictable, and easy to reuse—no prep required.

What’s Included:

  • 3 levels of digraph decoding assessments (Levels 1–3)
  • 2 sets per level for progress monitoring
  • 30 words per page for fluency-style assessment
  • Student pages + matching teacher recording sheets

How I Use This:

  • Quick decoding checks during small groups
  • Progress monitoring for intervention or RTI
  • Data collection for IEP goals
  • Grouping students based on skill level

Students read directly from the page while I track accuracy on the recording sheet—fast and efficient.

Skills Covered:

  • Digraph recognition (sh, ch, th, wh, ck)
  • Decoding in initial and final positions
  • Increasing complexity from simple to multisyllabic words
  • Phonics-based word reading and fluency

Levels Explained:

  • Level 1: Basic, one-syllable digraph words
  • Level 2: More complex words with blends
  • Level 3: Longer and multisyllabic words with mixed patterns

This makes it easy to differentiate and track growth over time.

, Good to Know:

Some of the higher-level words include mixed phonics patterns to better reflect real reading tasks.

This resource is part of a growing phonics assessment series—perfect for building a consistent system for decoding and progress monitoring.
