Description

So, why would a Speech Pathologist teach drawing? Because there is language involved! When you draw, you have to visualize a picture or story in your head. You must sequence the steps to get your ideas on paper. This can be challenging for many special education students who are lacking the language skills to describe, problem solve, and sequence. They may also lack the fine or visual motor skills to create the drawing. By using drawing in therapy, we are teaching a functional skill that students enjoy, can use throughout their school day, AND can target language needs.
