This is my favorite writing lesson to teach each year because I just can't wait to listen to my student's responses as they share their discoveries! The activities in this product are designed to build a classroom environment where students are free to take risks and express their ideas. If you are going to use this at the beginning of the year, lessons are included for researching why and how writer's write. If you are using this later in the year you are ready to dive into the funnest part: the music! Directions are included for using one song students are familiar with and one song they probably have never heard. Students will analyze the music and draw connections with text(song) to self, text(song) to text(media), and text(song) to world. All activities include a portion of individual responses and group work. Open ended graphic organizers are also included for you to extend these ideas and select music of your own. Happy writing!
