Description

$1 for the first 10 downloads!

This download is the DIGITAL USE version of our task cards. Since most of us are teaching and learning from home, I have adapted our task cards to be used digitally. Students would do their work in their journal or a piece of paper. Then, in the document, they drag a highlighter square over their answer choice. They then explain how they know their answer is reasonable in the space below. Personally, I have assigned these to my students on Google Classroom and chose "make a copy for each student." I had 3 separate assignments so that each student has the level they need (modified, on grade level, or enrichment) They are doing 5-6 problems each day and I am able to help and give feedback as they work.

This is the Advanced/Enrichment Version (red set)

Click HERE for the Modified Version (green set)

  • grade level problem with model
  • model gives students a boost to help determine what is being asked

Click HERE for the Grade-Level Version (yellow set)

  • for students working on grade level
  • same problems as green set but without models

Original Description:

We know that every student is different and it can sometimes be difficult to switch up what you’re doing to meet the needs of every child. In this product, you are getting differentiated multiplication and division of fractions word problems written below grade level (modified), on grade level, and above grade level (extension).

This is the DIGITAL version of the task cards.

Level 1: problems outlined in green

  • The majority of these problems offer a picture for assistance.  These would be best suited for your students who are below grade level or just need a little boost when determining what a problem is asking.

Level 2: problems outlined in yellow

  • These problems are written at grade level.  Nothing has been added or taken away to the difficulty.

Level 3: problems outlined in red

  • These problems have increased difficulty and require multiple steps.  These steps may go beyond multiplication and division, and may require the student to use addition, subtraction, or interpreting the remainder in a given problem.

Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator (𝘢/𝘣 = 𝘢 ÷ 𝘣). Solve word problems involving division of whole numbers leading to answers in the form of fractions or mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem. For example, interpret 3/4 as the result of dividing 3 by 4, noting that 3/4 multiplied by 4 equals 3, and that when 3 wholes are shared equally among 4 people each person has a share of size 3/4. If 9 people want to share a 50-pound sack of rice equally by weight, how many pounds of rice should each person get? Between what two whole numbers does your answer lie?
Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction.
Interpret the product (𝘢/𝘣) × 𝘲 as a parts of a partition of 𝘲 into 𝘣 equal parts; equivalently, as the result of a sequence of operations 𝘢 × 𝘲 ÷ 𝘣. For example, use a visual fraction model to show (2/3) × 4 = 8/3, and create a story context for this equation. Do the same with (2/3) × (4/5) = 8/15. (In general, (𝘢/𝘣) × (𝘤/𝘥) = 𝘢𝘤/𝘣𝘥.)
