Description

This is the printable version of the distance / remote / online learning lesson plan book. It includes 40 weeks of planning pages, guidelines, and a routines brainstorming page. The template focuses on balancing synchronous, asynchronous and independent lessons for students. I created these guidelines based on best practices for remote learning. The lesson plan helps plan for these best practices.

I have 2 other versions of this product available.

  • Consistency - Create and follow through with routines that are predictable for families.  Help students create their own routines.

  • Communication - Over communicate with families.  Provide consistent modes of communication and clear boundaries. Create a way for families to provide feedback on assignments.

  • Flexibility - Work with families as much as possible to provide synchronous instruction at times when students can attend sessions.  Consider weekly due dates.  Remember that families may not be able to mirror a typical classroom schedule at home with synchronous instruction all day..  Students may need more time to complete assignments in the evenings or on weekends when they have more support.

  • Collaboration - How will you collaborate, learn from and share resources with other teachers?

  • Clear - Provide clear and concise instructions for students.  Record instructions when possible.

  • Engage - Use online and offline tools or projects to engage students.  Find ways to continue ‘on campus’ best practices such as small group instruction, projects, collaboration, games, etc.

  • Prioritize - Determine which standards are the most important.  Focus on mastering specific standards rather than trying to ‘cover’ all standards.  Determine which assignments will be graded and how feedback will be provided.

  • Social Emotional Learning - Create routines and opportunities for social emotional learning and maintaining a positive classroom community.

Balance - Provide a variety of online and offline activities as well as synchronous and asynchronous lessons.  Be sure that your expectations are realistic for yourself and the students.  Remote learning presents many challenges, so be sure to create schedules and routines that won’t lead to burnout. An online teaching day consists of providing feedback, communicating with families, planning and working with students.
