This activity will prepare your students to analyze longitudinal and transverse waves by structure, type, and interactions. Perfect way to check for understanding, review, or use as a quiz or short test. The answers are presented in a multiple choice format.

How it Works

  • Teacher guided review– Use online Boom Learning site with a projector to question your students as a class.

  • Teacher guided quiz – Use online Boom Learning site with a projector to give your class a quiz.

  • Student guided quiz – Use online Boom Learning site with one student per computer to complete the deck.

  • Classroom circle – Put your desks in a circle. Print task cards out on white cardstock and have students pass cards in a circle. Have students work in pairs. Use a timer to keep students on task. Do NOT let students pass cards without your signal.

  • Classroom gallery walk – Print task cards out on white cardstock and post these at eye level on the walls of your classroom or a hallway. Have students work in pairs. Use a timer to keep students on task.

NGSSMS-PS4-1
Use mathematical representations to describe a simple model for waves that includes how the amplitude of a wave is related to the energy in a wave. Emphasis is on describing waves with both qualitative and quantitative thinking. Assessment does not include electromagnetic waves and is limited to standard repeating waves.
NGSSHS-PS4-2
Evaluate questions about the advantages of using digital transmission and storage of information. Examples of advantages could include that digital information is stable because it can be stored reliably in computer memory, transferred easily, and copied and shared rapidly. Disadvantages could include issues of easy deletion, security, and theft.

Develop and use a model to describe that waves are reflected, absorbed, or transmitted through various materials. Emphasis is on both light and mechanical waves.
