Description

This 36-question & answer distributive property matching resource is differentiated to meet your students’ needs! Students match the distributive property question with the answer. This can also be used as a distributive property game by giving each student one piece (one student gets the problem piece and one student gets the answer piece) and having them find their matching partner in the classroom. This can also be used as a distributive property worksheet - simply cut off the answers and have your students write in the answers! Your students will love this distributive property practice!

There are questions with only 1 variable, as well as questions with 2 variables. All of the variables included are either “x” or “y” so students are working on the distributive property skill and not simply matching the variables. This product includes positive numbers with addition and subtraction expressions only.

There are 2 sections set up to make your printing life easier, depending on what you’re looking for:

The 1st section is set up with the questions & answers side by side. This can be used as an answer key, and is also great if you’re printing all the cards on the same color paper.

The 2nd section is great if you’re able to use one color paper for the questions and a separate color for the answers. Using different colors for the questions & answers can save students time when sorting through the cards. Another option is to print the questions cards and NOT cut them into individual pieces, but instead cut the sheet in half. This way, students simply match the answer cards, and don’t need to spend time sorting & organizing the question cards.

Print – Cut – GO!

Apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions. For example, apply the distributive property to the expression 3 (2 + 𝘹) to produce the equivalent expression 6 + 3𝘹; apply the distributive property to the expression 24𝘹 + 18𝘺 to produce the equivalent expression 6 (4𝘹 + 3𝘺); apply properties of operations to 𝘺 + 𝘺 + 𝘺 to produce the equivalent expression 3𝘺.
Identify when two expressions are equivalent (i.e., when the two expressions name the same number regardless of which value is substituted into them). For example, the expressions 𝘺 + 𝘺 + 𝘺 and 3𝘺 are equivalent because they name the same number regardless of which number 𝘺 stands for.
