These 3rd grade array model multiplication task cards and worksheets turn practicing the distributive property of multiplication into a self-checking riddle game students will love!

Whether you're teaching whole-class with graduated difficulty or pulling three small groups at different levels, this resource has everything you need — all in one place.

🃏 Task Cards — Riddle "Scoot" Game (24 Cards)

Students solve two-step array equations using visual models, revealing the answer to a silly riddle when all problems are solved correctly! Cards are leveled with corner dots so you (and your students) always know where they are:

Level 1 — Finding the missing side length (cards 1-8)

⬤⬤ Level 2 — Find missing side length and solving equation (cards 9-16)

⬤⬤⬤ Level 3 — Find side lengths, complete equation, and solve (cards 17-24)

📄 Differentiated Worksheets (3 Worksheets)

Those same problems don't stop at the task cards! Each level is also available as a standalone worksheet — perfect for independent practice, homework, or a follow-up assessment. Each worksheet features its own riddle for a built-in self-check:

Worksheet 1 — Level 1 problems with a brand new riddle

⬤⬤ Worksheet 2 — Level 2 problems with the same riddle as the task cards

Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. Examples: If 6 × 4 = 24 is known, then 4 × 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 × 5 × 2 can be found by 3 × 5 = 15, then 15 × 2 = 30, or by 5 × 2 = 10, then 3 × 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 × 5 = 40 and 8 × 2 = 16, one can find 8 × 7 as 8 × (5 + 2) = (8 × 5) + (8 × 2) = 40 + 16 = 56. (Distributive property.)
