Description

This set of 24 task cards provides students with practice dividing unit fractions & whole numbers. The problems are mixed randomly to practice whole number divided by unit fraction and unit fraction divided by whole number. The directions are intentionally left vague so you may have students use models such as a number line, fraction strips, or the standard algorithm to solve.

Works great as a quiz or test review or just for extra practice after the skill is introduced.

You will receive:

  • 24 Task Cards (4 to a page)
  • Student Recording Sheet
  • Answer Key
  • 32 Unique MATHO Game Boards

MATHO: Each student receives a game board & recording sheet. As a class, the teacher can print & display the task cards under the document camera. Students will work them independently, or in small groups, and cross of the answer on their game board. The first student to get 5 in a row, wins!

Task Cards: Use the cards for activities such as "scoot", a walkabout activity, or display them under the document camera and have students write their answers on mini whiteboards.

Apply and extend previous understandings of division to divide unit fractions by whole numbers and whole numbers by unit fractions.
Interpret division of a unit fraction by a non-zero whole number, and compute such quotients. For example, create a story context for (1/3) ÷ 4, and use a visual fraction model to show the quotient. Use the relationship between multiplication and division to explain that (1/3) ÷ 4 = 1/12 because (1/12) × 4 = 1/3.
Interpret division of a whole number by a unit fraction, and compute such quotients. For example, create a story context for 4 ÷ (1/5), and use a visual fraction model to show the quotient. Use the relationship between multiplication and division to explain that 4 ÷ (1/5) = 20 because 20 × (1/5) = 4.
