Why the "2-Digit Quotient" matters so much in this lesson:
All the problems in this lesson have a 1-digit divisor, a 2-digit dividend, and a 2-digit quotient. This means students must complete the division cycle twice to complete each problem. This means we have moved from mental math division into LONG DIVISION.
An example of this would be 79 divided by 3. First students divide the 3 in the 7 and then the 3 in 19. Each problem intentionally follows the same numeric pattern which helps kids memorize the steps and gain confidence to prepare them for larger numbers.
This lesson teaches students the basics of long division but keeps the numbers small and in their comfort zone.
