Description

This ready-to-print lesson covers determining the domain and range of linear functions from applied situations and interpreting the meaning of the domain and range values within the context of the situation.

TEACHERS LOVE the worked-out key included with the lessons notes. Feel confident delivering instruction on these sometimes tricky topics! It is a major time-saver if you don’t have quite enough time to create your own guided notes key for the day.

STUDENTS LOVE the reduced note-taking burden with the guided notes handout. Fill-in-the-blank vocabulary improves the accuracy of students’ notes and frees up more time for showing mathematical steps. The notes video is a fantastic resource for absent students.

TEACHERS LOVE the multiple versions of the practice worksheet.

STUDENTS LOVE the organized presentation of new topics and opportunities for guided practice before independent practice.

TEACHERS LOVE the pre-made exit ticket and next-day warm-up that support skills from this lesson.

This lesson includes a guided notes handout (with video), practice worksheets, an exit ticket, and a next-day warm-up problem.

  • Students will determine the domain and range of linear functions from applied situations.
  • Students will determine whether the use of continuous or discrete domain and range is most appropriate.
  • Students will express continuous domain and range using inequality notation

This resource is in PDF format. Check out the preview for a detailed look!

  • The Guided Notes are designed for use as a note-taking guide combined with guided practice.

  • The Notes Video is available to stream on YouTube link or to download as an mp4 video file.

The YouTube version has captions and chapters for easy navigation!

  • Practice A and Practice B are suitable for use as in-class practice and homework. Two comparable forms are included for increased versatility.

  • The Exit Ticket is designed for a quick concept check at the end of the class period.

  • The Warm-Up is designed for next-day use to reinforce the previous day’s learning.

This is a good resource for domain and range in real life context. It provide very good structure to help kids make sense of what values make sense. Recommend this and the digital activity that mirrors it.

Use function notation, evaluate functions for inputs in their domains, and interpret statements that use function notation in terms of a context.
Relate the domain of a function to its graph and, where applicable, to the quantitative relationship it describes. For example, if the function 𝘩(𝘯) gives the number of person-hours it takes to assemble 𝘯 engines in a factory, then the positive integers would be an appropriate domain for the function.
