Description

Students find domain and range of graphs, scatter plots, tables, coordinate pairs and mappings in this algebra activity that doubles as a math bulletin board display.

Included inside:

  • 20 pennants with graphs (7), scatter plots (3), tables (5), coordinate pairs (3) and mappings (2) and 1 title pennant

  • optional student answer sheets

  • answer key

There is an answer sheet inside for recording domain and range, and an extra answer sheer for recording whether each pennant shows a function as an extension activity. After all completed pennants are hanging, students can use the functions answer sheet to record if each pennant shows a function.

Each group of students can be given a set of pennants, scissors and either glue, tape or a stapler. Students can be in charge of cutting out the pennants. Groups can compete to see which group can complete the most pennants or your entire class can add pennants to one string as they complete each one. You may also choose to have your students color their pennants to add to your classroom décor.

Understand that a function from one set (called the domain) to another set (called the range) assigns to each element of the domain exactly one element of the range. If 𝘧 is a function and 𝘹 is an element of its domain, then 𝘧(𝘹) denotes the output of 𝘧 corresponding to the input 𝘹. The graph of 𝘧 is the graph of the equation 𝘺 = 𝘧(𝘹).
