Description

What is inside the Earth? Most of our students think it's solid rock-- and are surprised to know that solid rock is actually only 1% of EARTH and only found in the Crust!

Try something new! Instead of doing all the talking and explaining, let them do the work!! AND practice getting information from Non-Fiction Graphics like Diagrams, Tables, and Short Articles! This EARTH's Layers INFOGraphiQ DATALab allows YOU to Differentiate by assigning any of the 6 graphic-rich pages (I'd print 2/pg, double-sided) with any of the 8 different level charts. Do you want them to gather DATA for the 4 basic layers inside Earth? or synthesize more DATA and PROPERTIES for the Continental; Oceanic Crust, Upper; Lower Mantle (including Lithosphere and Asthenosphere), with any variation of EARTH's Properties?

This DATALab allows the student to gather BASIC INFO, such as a Description of the Layer's Composition, down to SUPER SPECIFIC Properties, like each Layer's Elements & Compounds and Rocks & Minerals. Assign it Individually, in Partners, in Cooperative Groups, or even in a Station!

I have also included pages on Plate Boundaries and Movement--which truly simplifies Convergent, Divergent, and Transform Plate Boundaries with clear graphics and explanations!

ALL EARTH's Layers DATA is on the first 3 pages, and the last 3 pages, include really interesting SHORT ARTICLES relating to other UNITS and CURRENT REAL SCIENCE, like, "What's INSIDE the other Planets?" "How deep have we DUG into Earth?" "How are DIAMONDS helping us know about the Lower Mantle?" "What did we find at the bottom of the deepest part of the Ocean,?" and WHY do we want to go to a Galilean Moon, Europa, to see if organisms like those --may be there, too?"

I have included my Science Response Prompts for students to use throughout the year, and this would be a perfect time for them to write a Response for some of the Short Articles in their Journals/Notebooks!! Studies show that when students reflect on their learning, it stays with them!

As always, this is NOT SCIENCE LIGHT! Nor will it require a gazillion copies-- just a set per table or group or partners, of YOUR CHOICE of pages and ONE CHART per student! Most are printed 2/pg. I have included Suggestions on management and copying in my Teacher's Notes & Suggestions on pg. 2. This can always be saved and uploaded to your website and you won't need to print anything except the charts!

All pages are done in BOTH full color and TONE-CORRECTED, copy-able black & white! GO AHEAD! ROCK the Science! I have added more FREEBIES-- enjoy my Modeling Faults of the Earth with Cookies LAB, and 2 Earth's layers activities, a small group sort labels, and Exit Tickets!! I hope you enjoy:)

Sincerely,
Jana--Science Rocks with Smalley!

I really like your product. It has great information. However, the "Diamonds aren't Just a Girl's best friend" page has information cut off on the bottom. Is it possible to get a copy that does not have the bottom block of information not cut off?
