EDITABLE Multiplication Representations & Strategies- Mini Poster / Web
Share

Description

In this activity, students will fill in their own mini poster / organizer (regular 8.5" x 11" paper size) that shows the different ways to represent or solve a single multiplication fact.

Different representations for students to complete include skip counting, repeated addition, array, number line, bar diagram/tape diagram/strip diagram, and equal groups; however, this product is ****EDITABLE**** to meet your needs and the needs of your students! You call a representation by a different name? Change it! Didn't teach arrays yet but want to use this? Delete it! It is meant to be customized to your needs. (Font I used: KG Blank Space Solid).

This activity is a great way to get students practicing the different methods / representations of multiplication. It can be used while teaching the methods, at the end of the unit as practice, as test prep, as an assessment itself, as review later in the school year, as a Fun Friday task, as a math center/station, and more! You can also hand it back to students to keep as a study guide or reference sheet or hang completed posters up.

Best of all, giving students the opportunity to color or decorate the poster makes it more fun, engaging, and motivating!

This activity can be differentiated to meet the needs of your students. For example, you can give more challenging facts to solve to higher students and more manageable facts to solve to students who need accommodations. It can also be differentiated directly by editing the file itself to change what on the poster the student completes.

  • To determine what fact students will be solving / representing, you can have students roll dice for factors, pick number cards for factors, give a predetermined list of facts, use a spinner, etc.

Enjoy!

Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 × 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a total number of objects can be expressed as 5 × 7.
Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
