Description

You're wondering how to build confidence in students before the SBAC Performance Task? This female Supreme Court Justices unit featuring Sandra Day O'Connor and Sonia Sotomayor gives students practice with the SBAC ELA Performance Task. Students read through two rigorous sources and answer constructed response questions citing text evidence in Part 1. In Part 2, students create a new piece of narrative, informational, or opinion writing. This test prep unit is perfect for March for Women's History Month!

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

  • task directions
  • 2 source texts: Sandra Day O'Connor and Sonia Sotomayor
  • Three Part 1 research questions
  • Three Part 2 writing prompts: narrative, informational, and opinion
  • Writing pages
  • Google Slides tutorial file

ALL pieces are also included in Google Slides files so students can practice digitally or in traditional printed format.

You are able to customize this ELA Performance Task unit to meet your state's standards, assessment, and students' needs. Question #3 evaluates the usefulness of sources and is provided on a separate page to allow for you to choose whether or not to include it. All 3 writing genres are included so you can choose to work on the genre you feel is best: same genre for all, or a variety of genres based on student need.

If you want to practice digitally, the entire file is also provided on Google Slides along with a tutorial on using Google Slides with students. The tutorial walks through how to make copies of the file to share with students, or how to easily assign the pieces in Google Classroom. Highlighting masks are also included in the digital file so students can easily identify the pieces of source evidence used in their responses.
