Here are some ideas for using these cards to develop number sense!

  • Use a card as the basis for a daily number talk.
  • Solve a card every day right before you start your math lesson, as a warm-up and to get your students focused.
  • Put a set of cards on a ring for a challenging and engaging activity for your early finishers.
  • In whole group or small group lessons, the cards can be used for a game with the pocket chart or a 1-120 chart. (directions card included).
  • In a small group or with partners, they can be used with a printable number grid activity (directions card and grid included). They're also great for a traditional number battle game ... who has the greater number?
  • For independent work and great practice with addition, subtraction, and place value, use the cards with the included solve-and-color page.

I love these math riddles. I use them as warm-ups, math centers, or as math write-the-room. I think these are great for getting kids thinking about numbers. After we’ve used these a few time, the kids even start making up their own riddles, and that’s awesome! Thanks for creating this resource.
