Teacher Recording Sheet with Present Levels Templates- Use with Early Literacy and Early Math Basic Skills Assessment Google Slides.

The Basic Skills Assessment is an invaluable informal assessment tool designed to help educators evaluate the foundational academic skills and progress of their students.

This comprehensive assessment provides a digital display for each prompt, enhancing student engagement and focus. Covering a wide range of essential skills, the assessment includes identification of capital letters, lowercase letters, letter/sound knowledge, beginning sight word knowledge, CVC word blending, color identification, shape identification, number recognition from 0 to 30, counting quantities from 1 to 10, problem-solving within 10 using addition and subtraction, and number sense using 10 frames.

Each skill area is clearly outlined, allowing teachers to score student performance and categorize their level of development as Emerging (Below 40%), Developing (41%-60%), Demonstrating (61%-80%), or Exceeding (Above 81%). The assessment also incorporates documentation of various prompting levels and response types, ensuring that it can be tailored to meet individual student needs.

This resource not only streamlines the assessment process but also provides valuable insights into each student's strengths and areas for growth, enabling educators to plan targeted instruction. Perfect for early childhood and special education settings, the Basic Skills Assessment is an essential tool for fostering literacy and math skills in young learners.

This assessment includes a “force copy” link to a corresponding Google Slides presentation that features engaging visuals that support student understanding and interaction with each assessment prompt. The letter slides feature clear, bold text to enhance letter identification. Each Beginning Sound picture slide includes colorful images representing the letters and beginning sounds being assessed, allowing students to visually connect with the content.  Additionally, the slides provide options for students to respond, such as matching images to sounds or verbally identifying letters, making the assessment both interactive and accessible. This visual support enhances student engagement and aids in their comprehension of foundational reading skills.

This assessment includes editable present levels templates equipped with convenient drop-down menus that allow educators to easily input data based on student performance. These templates facilitate the documentation of each student's current abilities in uppercase letter recognition, sound identification, and beginning sound recognition. The drop-down menus streamline the process, enabling teachers to quickly select appropriate proficiency levels and notes based on the assessment results. This feature not only saves time but also ensures that educators have a clear and organized way to communicate each student's strengths and areas for growth, ultimately enhancing the planning of targeted instruction and interventions.
