Description

This listing features a full-page study guide that complements a chapter about earthquakes for a middle school earth science course.

  • After defining the term earthquake, students will answer four successive fill-in-the-blank sections on the topics of earthquake frequency/earthquake basics, the San Andreas Fault, and tsunamis. I included word banks for each section.
  • In the following section, students will write in the appropriate term on the blank line next to the provided definition for hypocenter, focus, seismic waves, and epicenter.
  • In the next section, students will write a “P” on the blank line if the characteristic describes a primary wave, an “S” on the line if the characteristic describes a secondary wave, and an “L” on the line if the characteristic describes a surface wave.
  • In the last section, students will match the term to the definition for the Richter scale, seismologists, seismograph, and seismogram.

This lesson is now also published as a TpT Digital/Easel Activity! In the new version, students can answer the questions by completing the text boxes I inserted into the PDF document. This feature will enable the students to complete and submit the electronic assignment in the instructor's dropbox if learning has to occur from a remote location.

This PDF document will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using an Adobe Acrobat Reader DC app. It includes a full-page key with the answers in red font.
