This interactive video and extension activities challenge students to explore Earth's weather. Students begin their exploration by watching an interactive video to get a basic understanding of characteristics of weather (temperature, air pressure, wind, humidity, relative humidity, dew point, and precipitation) and then deepen their understanding through several extension activities. This is a complete and thorough 2 day lesson/unit with absolutely NO PREP WORK for the teacher!
Lesson Overview. Students will:
- Understand the different components of weather on Earth (temperature, air pressure, wind, humidity, relative humidity, dew point, and precipitation)
- Differentiate between humidity and relative humidity as it relates to the temperature of the atmosphere
- Comprehend the role of air pressure in creating wind
- Explain the measurement of temperature in relation to the kinetic energy of the molecules in the atmosphere
- Develop a creative writing to illustrate their understanding
- Engage in discussion with classmates using higher order thinking
