Description

Description:
This editable assignment bundle gives music educators a ready-to-use solution for students who miss a concert performance due to illness, transportation issues, or other excused absences. Instead of receiving a zero for non-participation, students complete a structured, standards-based assessment that measures their musicianship, understanding, and personal reflection.

Students will demonstrate their learning through both a Performance Video Assignment and a Research & Reflection Project. These rigorous, easy-to-grade tasks allow every learner to show growth in practice habits, performance skills, and appreciation of the performing arts.

Purpose:
This assignment gives students who have never had the opportunity to write about the significance of the performing arts a chance to express themselves. In lieu of performing at a concert for any reason—sickness, transportation conflicts, family events, or emergencies—students can complete this project to maintain accountability and avoid receiving a poor grade for not performing.

🧾 What’s Included:

  • Editable Word Document (.docx) for easy customization
  • Performance Video Make-Up Assignment (5–7 minute submission)
    • Practice demonstration rubric
    • Final performance expectations
    • Reflection prompts

  • Research-Based Written Report Assignment
    • Biographical research on composer
    • Musical analysis & style identification
    • Personal reflection on emotional connection

  • Clear student instructions & submission options
  • Signature lines for student, director, and parent

🎯 Learning Objectives:

✔ Reinforce performance standards even when a student cannot attend the concert
✔ Encourage critical thinking and reflection through writing and analysis
✔ Provide equitable make-up opportunities that respect student circumstances
✔ Develop research and communication skills aligned with music curriculum standards

📚 Ideal For:

  • Middle & High School Band, Choir, or Orchestra directors
  • General Music or Music Appreciation classes
  • Substitute plans or concert week make-up assignments
  • Teachers using Canvas, Google Classroom, or Blackboard

💡 Product Details:

  • Grade Levels: 6th–12th
  • Pages: 3+ (fully editable templates)
