Description
This editable product includes three rubrics for both teachers and students - one set based on opinion writing, one on narrative writing (could be real or imagined), and one on informational writing.
Opinion Writing Rubric focuses on structure (an introduction, stated opinion, reasons that support the opinion and a conclusion), transition words, and explanation of reasons.
Narrative Writing Rubric focuses on story elements (setting, characters, logical sequence, dialogue and a conclusion), imagery, and actions/thoughts/feelings.
Informational Writing Rubric focuses on organization (introduction, like items grouped together, conclusion, appropriate NF structure), NF features and original language (to avoid plagiarism).
All rubrics have a 4 point scale.
All teacher rubrics grade students on conventions ( spelling, capitalization and punctuation) and also the students' ability to work independently re: editing and also completion of the assignment.
Student checklists keep the authors on track to ensure that they have all necessary components of a successful writing.
These rubrics were designed with third grade standards in mind, but can easily be adapted to match the needs in your classroom.
