Description

Writing strategies for writing a paragraph just got easier! Introduce students to add a variety of details in their paragraphs using the seven types of elaboration, giving them structured practice with paragraph writing, learning how to add details to writing, and applying those strategies in extended constructed response practice with passage prompts.

Designed to support paragraph elaboration from start to finish, this resource includes anchor charts, guided notes, worksheets, and a full-length writing prompt making it perfect for targeted skill-building, test prep, or writing intervention lessons.

What’s Included:

Anchor Charts & Guided Notes
Students are introduced to the 7 types of elaboration using visual anchor charts and fill-in-the-blank notes. These help reinforce key writing strategies for paragraph development while supporting active engagement during instruction.

Paragraph Writing Practice Worksheets
Students complete constructed response practice using two paragraph prompts. Each paragraph already includes a topic sentence and text evidence—students must add details to the writing by inserting the appropriate type of elaboration.

Extended Constructed Response Practice with Passage Prompt

Once students are familiar with elaboration in isolated paragraphs, they move on to a full extended constructed response. They read a passage and respond to a writing prompt, applying multiple elaboration techniques to show mastery.

Differentiated Supports

I like this resource a lot, but "definitions" is spelled wrong on many pages. I would give 5 stars if I could use all of it!

Some helpful aspects, but could use improvement

The anchor charts and descriptions of the different elaboration strategies were helpful, but the practice sheets were not. A lot of the prompts didn’t make sense because they seemed to be pulled from the middle of some essay that we do not have access to. My students were confused as to how to complete the prompt and I don’t blame them. I only understood after looking at the suggested answers.

Hi Abbie, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I’m glad the anchor charts and strategy explanations were helpful. I appreciate you pointing out the confusion with the practice prompts that’s valuable to know. I will review the wording and directions to make them clearer and more accessible for students.

If you have any specific suggestions or examples that would help improve clarity, I’d truly appreciate it. Thank you again for sharing your experience.
