"This resource is perfect for independent practice. Elapsed time is a really hard concept for my students, especially when it is written as a word problem. The number of questions in this resource is great. I completed multiple questions over many days as a review for state testing. "

NOTE: This resource uses American English and is not editable.

The first set features relatively easy word problems. Most require just one step - though there are a few two-step problems mixed in. This one would be great to use when you are introducing the concept or at the start of the year.

The second set features more challenging problems. They are evenly split between one and two-step problems. These would work well for advanced third-graders, at the end of the year, or for fourth grade.

Using a student-generated number line is a great strategy for solving this type of problem. You may also want to have one of those yellow student clocks available for students to use with these cards.

A Great Way to Review Elapsed Time

This was actually 2 sets in one. I copied each set on different colored paper to help keep them together. I used these as one of my fluency stations during math rotations. It was one that my parent volunteer could use without any pre-instruction or explanation. My students love working through task cards, and having a single problem in front of them, rather than a whole page of problems, made the problems accessible to my students who get overwhelmed by a full page of text.

My students really enjoyed these task cards. Rigor was on the beginning skill level so it really didnt challenge my higher kids. I assigned them as helpers and it worked out great. :)

So many of my students have IEP goals with time and elapsed time. We use these task cards to help them practice these goals in our daily review of elapsed time since it is not covered in 5th grade.
