Description
Small quiz boards are great hands-on science projects that that have a STEM and STEAM component. Perfect when teaching about electricity and circuits, when students touch the correct answer to the question they complete the circuit and the light bulb lights up! Instructions to build the quiz boards are clearly described and includes tips on preparing and connecting the light bulbs: one strand of colored LED holiday lights provides more than enough lights for large classes. While students can create their own layout, this resource provides a light bulb, light house, and stoplight templates.
The activity requires a small wire stripper. Even if you have no experience stripping wires, it’s simple to do and with appropriate safety precautions many students can strip the wires themselves to expose the copper wire. Otherwise, the quiz boards are made out of inexpensive materials such as aluminum foil and brass fasteners.
Instructions to build a more challenging quiz board where the incorrect answers light up a different bulb are also provided. To give your students ideas, there is also a page that shows different examples of quiz boards that can be projected using a document camera.
