PreK - 6 Library Scope & Sequence that breaks down what to teach week by week so you don’t have to scramble for ideas.This Scope & Sequence outlines what to teach in your library media center for all grades in PreKindergarten through 6th Grade.
Coming up with a Library Media curriculum takes time, patience, and testing. This Scope and Sequence includes when and what to teach students about specific research, digital citizenship, coding, library, design, and computer science skills.
It outlines the skills that students will acquire each year, making it easy to see how each year builds off of the previous one. It also suggests when to teach each content area during the school year for each grade.
After downloading this scope and sequence you will receive a spreadsheet outlining a year’s curriculum for all grade levels. This resource includes:
Spreadsheet that outlines and entire school year curriculum for PreK - 6. Showing what is taught for each grade and during which months.
Spreadsheets for the entire school year for each included content/skill area. It includes essential questions and goals for each grade level. This shows you what each grade level will learn in a particular content area and what time of year it is taught: Library, Research, Digital Citizenship, Computer Science, Digital Design, and Coding Skills.

- Many lessons include suggested read-alouds.
- 2 Spreadsheets that outline 2 years of grade-banding: teaching the same curriculum to 2 grades at the same time, and then building upon that the following year.
- Slideshow that explains the developmental characteristics of elementary students. This gives you an idea of why I chose specific content and focus areas. It also gives you important information to help students be successful learners in the Library Media Center.
- Links to the previous versions of the Scope & Sequence. One is for grades PreK-5, and another is for PreK-6. These are available so you can see different curriculum options and the ways my thinking has changed over the years.
