Description
This Resource Packet is all about elements and the Periodic table. It includes (in order of the way they will be done in class)
This packet also goes along with fill in notes found on my TPT store called “Elements/ Periodic Table Unit Packets/ Fill in Notes, Quizzes, Review, Stations” at this link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Elements-Periodic-Table-Unit-Packets-Fill-in-Notes-Quizzes-Review-Stations-3709588
Notes 3.1: The model of the atom (and how it changes through the ages)
Notes 3.1 cnt.: 3 Parts of the atom, and Atomic number and Isotopes
notes 3.2: Organization of the periodic table (
Notes 3.2 cnt.: How the periodic table is useful (periods and groups)
Stations/ group work: This can be used like a review for students to practice all the information they have learn thus far.
Station 1: Draw and label the 5 atomic models
Station 2: Write the definition for each: Electron, Proton, Neutron, Nucleus
Station 3: Label each diagram (Atomic #, Element symbol, Name, Mass, Periods, Groups)
Station 4: Use the elements to form as many words as you can (had a periodic table at this
station and students will try to make words : Ex: Boron Actinium Oxygen Nitrogen
B Ac O N = Bacon
Station 5: Arrange these names in order from oldest to most recent (Rutherford, Dalton, Mendeleev, Chadwick, Bohr )
This also includes a response sheet where students can record their answers. This makes it easy for grading
Review for quiz (15 questions)
notes 3.3: Metals and Properties of metals
notes 3.3 cnt. : Analyzing the groups on the periodic table
Notes 3.4: This is organized as 2 tables so that students can break about the periodic table by groups. For each group they will list the elements, properties, and Examples. They will also color code it and then color in a periodic table.
Review for whole chapter 3: 20 questions, great for review games
Extra thinking Articles: 3 different articles about how some elements are becoming extinct (with thought questions) , Interactive periodic table that shows what each element is used for, and an article with a diagram that shows which country discovered each element.
Each power point how animations on the slides, images, websites, and activities through out it. Each lesson is also a different layout so that you can easily tell where one lesson begins and ends. Feel free to change something that doesn't quite align with your curriculum. This power point was for 7th and 8th graders but it can also work for a bit younger or a little older.
