Description

In this heat flow lab, students will determine if the removal of oxygen from hydrogen peroxide is endothermic or exothermic and they will calculate the heat exchanged as well!

This elephant's toothpaste lab is so fun and engaging and foamy! It will definitely make a mess out of your classroom, so make sure to put the reaction into an aluminum tray.

WHAT MATERIALS ARE REQUIRED?

  • Dry yeast
  • Hydrogen Peroxide (12% or greater - I get it from the beauty supply store - ask for liquid developer)
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Thermometer
  • Erlenmeyer flask or a narrow mouth bottle
  • Squeegee or Aluminum holding tray for cleaning or containing the mess
  • Food coloring to make it fun (not required)

WHAT’S INCLUDED

  • Lab activity: pre and post lab questions and a written conclusion
  • "How to Write a Chemistry Lab Report"
  • Conclusion sentence starter prompt for differentiation
  • Answer key with sample responses
