Description

The only way to get better at statistics is with practice! This partner activity will give your students 11 great opportunities to practice and collaborate with a partner. Each partner will work through one column of problems, then compare with their partner. Their answers should match, even though the problems are different.

Bonus, after class I tell my students to keep the worksheet with half of it blank. The other half of the activity makes a great study guide for the night before a quiz or test because they already have the answer key! :)

I recommend using this activity on Day 2+ of the Empirical Rule, not the first day. The problems primarily focus on non-symmetric area problems (for example, between 2 SDs below and 1 SD above)

This product works well in an Introduction to Statistics class or AP Statistics class. AP students will work through it much faster than Intro students.

Included:

  • 2-Page Partner Activity
  • 2-Page Answer Key (with full solutions)
  • Link to YouTube Video (free!)

Great For:

  • Flipped classrooms (students get the basics on their own as homework so you can do the actual practice in class)
  • Sub plans (students can still learn even when you're not there, using my video if they get stuck)
  • Review and reteach (students can re-learn concepts that were challenging)

Use the mean and standard deviation of a data set to fit it to a normal distribution and to estimate population percentages. Recognize that there are data sets for which such a procedure is not appropriate. Use calculators, spreadsheets, and tables to estimate areas under the normal curve.
