Description

Your fourth graders’ will melt when they try this art-inspired Solar Oven STEM Challenge! They'll discover how light energy is converted into heat energy, how to use the powers of absorption and insulation, all while melting colorful crayons onto a hangable art project.

In this NGSS science activity, your fourth graders will explore how energy can be converted into different forms, and then be used to do things! — all while solving an engineering challenge they'll never forget.

Your students will be introduced to key energy concepts through the lens of a river turtle in a print-and-go science lesson that combines storytelling, vocabulary building, and experimentation. We love cross-curricular project lessons around here!

Once they’ve learned the concepts, they’ll apply them in a STEM project where they create there own solar oven, then test and record what engineering methods they use to melt the crayons onto the paper turtle inside.

At the end, your fourth grade class will have completed an energy STEM challenge they can display, play with, and use as evidence to explain the relationship between forms of energy!
