Description

This PowerPoint is for Engage NY/Eureka Math 3rd Grade Module 1 Lesson 5 'Demonstrate the commutativity of multiplication, and practice related facts by skip-counting objects in array models.' I use it as a visual guide direct from the lesson plan for the students and myself. It helps me to stay with the 60 minute time limit. It is still important to preview the PowerPoint before you teach the lesson so you can make adjustments to your teaching style. There are some notes to help you plan.

My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone. I will be posting my other PowerPoints as well. If you like this one, I have others on this topic! I hope you let me know how things go! Thank you!

Again, I am sorry for the long delay before I responded. I will do better! I hope you were able to see how the last slide has all you need for the quick check at the end of the day so that you do not end up grading anything at home but merely mark or keep points that let you know how your students are doing for the next day. With white boards and the occasional torn pieces of paper, we actively kept less papers for me to take home and grade which meant that I had more time to focus on their educational needs. Thank you for the review.

Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. Examples: If 6 × 4 = 24 is known, then 4 × 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 × 5 × 2 can be found by 3 × 5 = 15, then 15 × 2 = 30, or by 5 × 2 = 10, then 3 × 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 × 5 = 40 and 8 × 2 = 16, one can find 8 × 7 as 8 × (5 + 2) = (8 × 5) + (8 × 2) = 40 + 16 = 56. (Distributive property.)
